Fingerprint access control from Simplex
Using fingerprint access control systems is good practice in any company as it combines high security with ease of use and management. The innovative biometric technology of these systems provides a unique manner to fulfil authorisation. At Simplex, we have a range of high-quality products and software to suit many environments, no matter how big or small your workforce is.
How does fingerprint access control work?
Fingerprint access control machines use a scanner to identify the fingerprint and authorise access. Since all fingerprints are unique, they provide an easy and safe way to identify employees – all that is needed is their print! The software that supports these machines allows employers to grant access to selected individuals and simultaneously restrict others.
When setting up these systems, the employer is required to register a user’s fingerprint once only, using the scanner found on the machine. The software that accompanies these machines then creates unique codes associated with each print, which are then safely stored to recall when needed.
When an employee wishes to gain access to the controlled area, all that is needed is their fingerprint. The machine then live scans the employee’s print and compares it to the stored data to either authorise or reject the entry.

Why use this form of access control?
Biometric control, in this sense, allows the authorisation or restriction of individuals based on their unique fingerprint. When attempting to access a controlled area, the employee’s unique physical trait will be scanned and matched with data stored in the system. Only upon a successful match of the physical data, is physical access granted.
Due to the difficulty of faking attributes to gain access to controlled areas protected by biometrics, these systems are considered to have high security as they cannot be easily mimicked or guessed. Using fingerprints for access control also lessens the risk associated with employees losing their authentication cards or forgetting passcodes. The uniqueness of this identification process also allows employers to easily discover who entered the restricted area. Fingerprint clocking also eliminates employee’s ability to clock in on behalf of their colleagues, which ensures a more accurate payroll and can help improve accountability and transparency in the workplace.
The advantages of fingerprint access control
Ensure true identification
The uniqueness of the control system ensures that only the person with authorised access can enter the area. This authorised person must be physically present to gain or give access.
Allows for proper auditing
The accuracy of fingerprint access control systems allows for information regarding the exact identification of the person attempting to access the area. This makes it easy for employees to pinpoint when and where an individual is.
Easy to use
Once installed, these systems are easy to maintain. They also allow for easy use, making training employees a breeze. The ease of this system is also heightened as it requires no exterior factors to function. Employees will never have to remember a pin code or carry around a key card to gain access, as long as they are authorised on the database.
Enhanced security
The difficulty of duplicating someone’s physically unique attributes makes it difficult for those with malicious intent to gain access to a restricted area. This means that making use of fingerprint access control systems considerably enhances the safety of a facility or the equipment or software it may be restricting. The innovation of this solution also makes it easily scalable and suitable for any environment.
